Solar Eclipse August 12th 2026
The lunar eclipse August 28th 2026 asks you to look back before it lets you move forward.
Look back at August 28th, 2007. Nineteen years ago to the day. What shifted in your life around then? What chapter opened up, or what closed abruptly, without much warning?
That date matters because on August 28th this year, the sky returns to almost exactly the same configuration. Same axis, Aquarius and Leo. Same nakshatra, the Moon sitting in Shatabhisha. A similar shift is happening again, but this time it marks the beginning of another 18 to 19 year cycle, at a higher octave than the last. Before that beginning, though, there’s closure. Results from whatever you’ve quietly been working on since 2007. Patterns that have been unfolding for almost two decades finally paying out, one way or another.
What’s actually happening in the sky
This is a full moon lunar eclipse, in Shatabhisha nakshatra, on the Aquarius axis. Shatabhisha means the hundred healers, and it’s associated with the blossoming of inner potential and the full force of kundalini activating. The ruling deity is Varuna, god of the cosmic waters, the mystical healer. Varuna governs right action and is connected to purification, to dissolving whatever in us isn’t clean anymore.
It helps to understand the difference between what a solar eclipse does and what a lunar eclipse does. A solar eclipse changes what you do and where you’re going. A lunar eclipse changes who you are underneath it, and what you still feel bound to.
Why eclipses matter, and why people fear them
Eclipses accelerate our karma. Astronomically, they represent a moment when the two luminaries, Sun and Moon, reach a perfect alignment with the Earth. In the language of the subtle body, the Sun and Moon represent the third eye chakra, and the Earth represents the root chakra. When those align, there’s an unusual amount of potential compressed into a single moment. That’s exactly why it’s so natural for everything inside of us to churn more and intensify around eclipse periods.
The fourteen day window between one eclipse and the next, the window we’re in right now, is a time for inner reflection. It’s shadow work territory, not action territory. The second eclipse in a pair usually brings some form of resolution, though how strongly you feel it depends heavily on where this axis falls in your own birth chart.
An afflicted Moon
A significant detail about this eclipse is the Moon’s placement. Rahu sits behind it, Saturn retrograde sits ahead of it. Saturn is technically more than a sign away from the Moon, but visually in the sky, the Moon still reads as caught between those two influences. That’s already a tense placement for the Moon to be in, even before the eclipse itself is factored in.
Mercury goes fully combust
On the same day as the eclipse, Mercury meets the Sun in a superior conjunction, essentially a full Mercury, mirroring what a full moon does for the Moon. That puts Mercury deep in combustion with the Sun, and Ketu is sitting right there with them too. All three, Sun, Mercury and Ketu, are dwelling in Magha nakshatra, the ancestral star. Magha connects us to higher dimensions, to inspiration and higher knowledge, but that connection tends to come with real detachment from the material world. Combined with a combust Mercury, that detachment shows up as overthinking and negative thought loops.
Mercury is the planet that keeps us connected to the material world, that lets us express ourselves cleanly and maintain healthy connections. With Mercury this deep in the Sun’s fire, going through its own purification, it’s a poor window for confrontation, for saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, or for stepping into anything verbally combative. Most of us will feel, in some part of life over the next two weeks, that old structures just stop working the way they used to.
What to actually do with this window
Patience is the practice here, especially in these two weeks between eclipses. Whatever is really true for you, whatever is genuinely aligned with who you are, will still be true in two weeks. This eclipse can hand you real clarity on what no longer works for you, which structures have become shackles, and where you feel the pull to free yourself. Let that clarity form before you act on it.
If you commented Portal on the solar eclipse video, the limiting beliefs breathwork set that came through wasn’t just a one-off download. Keep using it right up to this eclipse. It was training for this exact moment, and it will help you redirect the energy of this lunar eclipse toward something constructive rather than reactive.
Join the live journey, August 28th
By popular demand, I’m doing something different for this one. On the evening of August 28th, 7pm AEST, I’m running a live breathwork and kriya journey through the eclipse, and you can join from anywhere in the world.
This is an extraordinary window to open the energy in the body, lift your vitality, and actually feel alive again. We’ll be aligning the body and its energy centres using breath, kriya, mantra and mudra, until you feel realigned to the path your life is actually meant to be on.
Join live here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/2078255808
Can’t make it live? No problem, the recording will be sent out afterward so you can do the journey in your own time. If you want the reminder and the recording sent straight to you, comment JOURNEY on the Lunar Eclipse post on my Instagram and I’ll get you set up.
I look forward to seeing you there.
with love and cosmic guideance
